Davenport Spill: Parts I & II - June 4, 2009

Davenport Spill
Big On Black

Another Chapter in the Pet Rock Chronicles

The last couple nights, a little weather system has passed through the central California coast. And you know what that means, more play time with my pet rocks!.

I am not alone in this quest, as several of my contacts have been out prowling the beaches, scouting out their spots. I have even shot with two of my contacts the last three nights, and passed by another without even knowing it!.

So, tonight, I set up camp and focused on the larger of my pets. With the high tide and moderate swell, I knew I could get some nice spill over shots. But hold that thought for a minute....

I made the trek down the trail and walked along the beach down to my favorite spot. I meticulously cleaned all my filters. I organized my gear to get ready for shooting in the surf action. Heck, I even took off my shoes and socks for once, knowing full well, I was going to get hammered..

Then I realized I forgot my memory card in the car! Crap! My mind goes to work and I realize I have a cheap Kingston card I won in a small photo contest. I dig around and find it. Yes, onto the shoot..

So I set up in the surf, and I fire my first shot. My camera reads "card error, cannot write to card", or something along those lines. My mind starts thinking that I may not shoot tonight, and if I have any chance, I better get back to the car and get that other memory card..

I dig through my bag one last time, and yes, I do have my other memory cards! I almost got religious right then and there. "Thank you lord", I said to myself.

Back to the shot, I am in the zone, getting hit by waves, cleaning my filters, and loving every minute of it. The conditions were everything I could have asked for, and my Lexar card performed flawlessly.

The Pet Rock Chronicles Continue

Ok, so neither of the two rocks I find so photogenic are in this shot, but they are right behind me keeping me company.

I really enjoyed this shoot simply because nature required me to be fully aware. Waves were coming in from all directions and I needed to be certain none took me or my tripod down.

If you look closely, there is a photographer up on the bluff. Cool stuff!
