As my art show season comes to a close, I can once again look
forward to getting some more diving in. Unfortunately, my upgraded
housing is not quite ready, so I am relying on my super-girlfriend
to loan me her housing set-up. At least now I can use my own lenses
and camera as the insurance settlement pulled through.
About six weeks ago, I was at Point
Lobos for a shore dive and was rewarded with very nice conditions.
My dive buddy, Eric, gets seasick fairly easy, so I was surprised
and
optimistic
about a "better" dive using our dive kayaks today. We decided
on a leisurely approach, stopping at the Harbor Cafe in Moss Landing
for a breakfast
burrito and ultimately rolling into Lobos at 9:45am. The sun was
beaming mightly with not a cloud to be seen. Our choice of dive vehicle
couldn't have been better as shore divers in the cove reported 7-8'
visibility.
We had an easy 40-50' and sunshine all the way to our max depth of
75' (2nd photo in slideshow).
I got a chance to meet Ken Gwin in the parking lot and listened to
his tales of
"Deep" Lobos...I will live vicariously through him for
these plunges to 250'. Much respect and appreciation for what these
guys and gals do and
see. For me, I will continue my documention of the "Recreational"
Lobos.
