Along the central California coast, divers understand Neptune's power and therefore possess a strong appreciation for the days when Mother Nature extends an open invitation to enjoy the subaquatic world in peace. Today was one of those days...and it couldn't have come at a more opportune time. Personally, my last dive was two and half months ago. Yikes! I offer no excuses other than being busy with life and the recent, extended period where the ocean appeared in hues of unattractive "earthy" tones, closely resembling brown rust. My dive buddy, out for several months recovering from knee surgery (a more valid excuse) , also benefited from the calm conditions. The ocean calm, the water blue, and the characters we all love were on display. Paddling out with our matching red kayaks, we spotted some otters and harbor seals. Moon jellies dotted the water column and our anticipation for the dive increased as we could see the bottom of Whaler's Cove almost out to Bird Rock.
We dove along Bluefish Wall and had a leisurely 50 minute 85' dive with visibility around 50'. Lingcod, greenlings, rockfish, cabezon, sea lions, as well as moon and sea nettle jellies made the sunshine and clear water that much more enjoyable. I guarantee my next dive will come much sooner. |
