Today almost didn't happen...my ear was bothering me a bit,
but I decided to get one last dive in before the storm and
despite my recent whale encounter, I decided to go with a
'super macro' set-up. Armed with a +diopter on front of my
105mm and set on manual focus, I was rewarded with glassy
calm conditions at Monastery Beach. This is a new style of
photography for me as I am learning to use and appreciate
the abilities of the 105mm lens. More working distance allows
better opportunities to get small fish shots. Despite the
lack of suitable nudibranch photo ops, there were plenty
of scuplins, painted greenlings, and nest sitting Cabezon.
My good friend Greg Bodi, however, found the score of the
day when on the swim in, he spotted a resting swell shark.
'Super Macro' provided the rest.
