I was a last minute addition on Dave Mackiewicz's
boat the Caramea, and the itinerary was looking like a Monterey
side dive. Turned out the ocean cooperated with a smooth ride
down to the outer pinnnacles in Carmel for dive one. A mild
surface current and moderate surge all the way to the bottom
made my choice of 'manual focus only' for macro look like a
really bad decision. My new housing appears to be incompatible
with the gear which allows switching from manual and auto focus.
I was forced to choose which and I chose manual. This requires
manually focusing on a subject of a given size, filling the
frame with it, and then moving the camera back and forth until
the object comes into focus. Once again, very difficult with
substantial water movement.
